Fortnite mobile: when is the Android release date, what are compatible devices and how do you sign up?

Fortnite has arrived on mobile platforms, with Epic making its battle royale game cross-platform with PC and consoles.

The battle royale shooter goes from strength to strength in 2018, with the mobile version for iOS and Android joining PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

There’s some confusion about how a mobile version works with other formats, which devices are supported and when exactly it’s available, so we’re going to help clear that up.

When does Fortnite on mobile launch for Android?

Fortnite mobile will be coming to Android devices in the future. Epic’s official response is “support for Android will be coming in the next few months“. The good news is that the release of Fortnite on iOS is now out of the way, so all effort is on the Android port.

The following is a list of Android compatible devices that Epic has said it will support:

  • Google Pixel 2 / XL
  • Huawei Mate 10 / Pro / Lite
  • Huawei Mate 9 / Pro
  • Huawei P10 / P10 Plus / P10 Lite
  • Huawei P9 / P9 Lite
  • Huawei P8 Lite 2017
  • LG G6
  • LG V30 / V30+

Access to Fortnite on Android is likely to be invite only as it originally was for iOS, as Epic gets its tech straight, so expect a limited sign-up process in the first couple of weeks.

How to get Fortnite mobile on iOS and what are the compatible devices

Originally, Fortnite on mobile for iOS was invite only. But this is now no longer the case. You just need to simply navigate to the App Store and download the game to start playing.

To play Fortnite on mobile you’ll need iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or iPad 2017 device.

  • iPhone 7 / 7 Plus

Is Fornite mobile on iPhone 6?

There’s been some confusion as to whether or not Fortnite works on the iPhone 6. Apple originally had the iPhone 6 listed as a compatible device but that was an error. We’ve check with Epic Games and Fornite mobile does not work on the iPhone 6. You will need the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus to play Fortnite mobile.

Fortnite mobile: how to invite friends

Each user has three invite codes for Fortnite mobile so you can send them to friends and play in a squad if you want to. You’ll see a notification in the lobby on the right hand side of the screen. To send out invite codes do the following:

  • Launch Fortnite
  • Wait for the game to connect to the Fortnite servers
  • In the Fortnite Lobby, tap the Invite Friends tab
  • Tap Share Invite Code
  • Tap the method you want to share the Invite Code: either directly to an Epic account or via email
  • Tap send

Once your friends have accepted the invite and signed up for an Epic account they’ll be automatically added to your friends list.

Is Fortnite on mobile different to PC, Xbox One and PS4?

Fortnite Battle Royale mobile is the same game as it is currently on PS4, Xbox One and PC. We’ve played it, and it’s a pretty smashing port of the original game. That means 100 players on the same map, with the same loot and progressions, complete with weekly challenges and updates.
